Ann Marie, that is my name up there! I am such an optimist, and I have to be to survive this madness all around me. It is 2 in the morning as I write to you, and this is also optimism at work knowing that I’m writing to someone half way around the world. and sending good wishes and… words of optimism.

Dear Optimistic Mary — how wonderful to hear from you. I saw your almond wreath post and was so impressed that you grow almond trees. I’m glad we’re in touch because you (I think it was you) mentioned Hometalk in a recent post. I’d never heard about it before, so what do you like about Hometalk? Meanwhile, stay optimistic. I also love Emily Dickinson’s poem whenever I need a jolt of hope:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

Iris thank you for the inspiration and for the poem! I live with hope in my heart every day. I am going to send you a message on Facebook about Hometalk.
